Hair Transplant Aftercare Instructions
Immediate Care (Days 1-4)
- Head Elevation: Keep your head elevated, even while sleeping, for the first 4 days to prevent swelling. Drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters daily).
- Sleeping: Sleep on your back with a neck pillow and additional pillows under your arms to prevent rolling over.
- Medications: Avoid blood thinners like alcohol, cigarettes, and other tobacco products for a minimum of 10 days.
- Showering: You can shower the day after your washing session (per your clinic’s instructions). Be extra cautious not to hit your head.
Washing Instructions (Days 1-10)
- Follow your clinic’s guidelines: They will provide specific directions for cleansing products and techniques.
- Gentle pressure: Use only very light water pressure and avoid direct spray on the transplanted area.
- Pat dry: Do not rub. Blot your scalp and hair gently with a soft towel.
Healing Timeline
- Days 1-5: Some swelling and tenderness are normal. Slight bleeding or fluid from the donor area might occur, especially on the first night.
- Days 5-14: Scabs form in the treated areas. Do not pick or scratch!
- Weeks 2-3: Transplanted hairs may shed. This is expected and part of the process.
- Month 3 onward: New hair growth begins, gradually becoming thicker.
Expanded Precautions
- Activities: Avoid Turkish baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 3 weeks.
- Clothing: Wear buttoned shirts for the first 10 days, rather than pulling anything over your head.
- Headwear: You can wear a loose-fitting cap after 10 days.
- Hair Care: Avoid hair dryers (for 2 weeks), dyes, and styling products until cleared by your clinic.
- Sun Exposure: Protect your scalp from direct sunlight for several weeks. Use sunscreen as recommended by your clinic.
Important Notes
- Sexual intercourse: It’s safe to resume 10 days after the transplant.
- Haircuts: You can trim with scissors or clippers after 3 weeks.
- Results: Full growth results can take 6-12 months. Be patient!
